Eloping in Albuquerque

Albuquerque gets overlooked next to Santa Fe and Taos. It has the Sandia Mountains turning pink at sunset, cottonwoods along the Rio Grande, and Old Town adobe. It is also the easiest place in New Mexico to fly into.

I'm based in Santa Fe, an hour north. Albuquerque is part of my regular coverage, and there is no travel fee.

Albuquerque Elopement Locations

  • Sandia Crest: 10,678 feet, looking west over the whole city at sunset. It sits in Cibola National Forest. Keep it simple, no arch or rentals, and a small ceremony falls outside the Forest Service permit rule for still photography. It runs much colder than the city, so bring layers.
  • Juan Tabo picnic area: in the Sandia foothills off Tramway. Paved road, restrooms, open year-round, $5 a car for day use. Stay at the picnic area. Past the La Luz trailhead you are in the Sandia Mountain Wilderness.
  • Elena Gallegos Open Space: wide foothill views. The city requires a permit for commercial photography here, so we plan for it.
  • Old Town and Hotel Albuquerque: a Spanish Colonial courtyard with adobe walls and good natural light, if you want a ceremony with walls around you.
  • Los Poblanos: lavender fields and cottonwood-lined grounds in the North Valley.
  • Private land: the cleanest answer if you want no permits at all. Ask me.

What's Included

Elopement packages start at $1,000 and include photo and video. Coverage follows your day: the ceremony, the two of you after, the details, and anything else that matters to you. You get an edited photo gallery and a cinematic film, delivered within 30 days.

Planning an Albuquerque Elopement

License. Any New Mexico county clerk issues a marriage license, including Bernalillo County in Albuquerque. The full steps are on my New Mexico elopement page.

Season. Fall and spring are the most reliable. Summer can be hot, and monsoon storms are hard to predict.

Time of day. For the Sandias, plan the ceremony for the last hour before sunset. The west face of the mountains catches the final light, and the city lights come up below you.

Photo and Video, One Vendor

I cover both photo and video. You don't need to coordinate two vendors or manage competing timelines. One booking, one person, and a gallery and film that match.

"We did a 90 min elopement package for a small ceremony and it was everything we could have asked for. Casey was professional, and very kind and made us feel comfortable. And, the photos are fantastic with a very quick turnaround. Can't recommend enough." — Google review, June 2026

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does an Albuquerque elopement photographer cost?

Elopement packages start at $1,000 and include photo and video. There is no travel fee anywhere in New Mexico.

Do we need a permit to elope at Sandia Crest?

Sandia Crest is in Cibola National Forest. The Forest Service requires a still photography permit when a shoot uses sets or props, or goes where the public is not allowed. A small ceremony in a public area with no arch or rentals falls outside that rule.

Where can we elope in Albuquerque without a permit?

The Juan Tabo picnic area in the Sandia foothills needs no permit for a small ceremony, with a $5 day-use fee per car. Private land needs no permit at all. Elena Gallegos Open Space requires a city permit for commercial photography.

Can we have guests?

Yes. Elopement coverage works for just the two of you or a small group. For a bigger guest list and a reception, see my Albuquerque wedding coverage.

When do we get our photos and film?

The edited gallery and the film arrive within 30 days.

Where do we get a marriage license?

Any New Mexico county clerk issues one, including Bernalillo County in Albuquerque. The full steps are on my New Mexico elopement page.
