Why Denver for Your Engagement Session

The Front Range gives an engagement session real range. You have a real city with skyline and character, foothills 20 minutes west, and the Rockies just beyond that. The light at altitude is clean and clear, and the terrain shifts from urban brick to red sandstone to alpine in the span of an afternoon. An engagement session near Denver isn't just about taking photos; it's about spending time in a place that matters, with a photographer who reads it fast.

I'm based in Santa Fe and travel to Denver and the Colorado mountains regularly for sessions, so distance is a line item on your quote, not a reason to compromise. I work fast and documentary, which means your session moves and captures real moments instead of posed ones — the light through the Flatirons at golden hour, the skyline behind Sloan's Lake, the sandstone at Red Rocks going warm at dusk.

What to Expect from Your Session

A standard engagement session is 1 to 2 hours. We start in one location, explore the light and energy there, and then either stay or move to a second spot. If you want outfit changes, we build time for that—nothing feels rushed. I work fast and documentary, which means I'm watching for real moments: the way you look at each other when you're not performing for the camera, laughter when something catches you off guard, the gesture of a hand or the turn of a head.

You'll get digital files, typically within a week. I deliver them in a cloud link, and they're all edited—no guesswork on color or exposure. The files are high-resolution and suitable for prints, social media, or the large canvas you might want to make.

If you want video as well, we can add that to the same session. Casey Addason Photography covers both photo and video, and combining them usually costs less than booking them separately.

Engagement Sessions Prepare You for Your Wedding

Many couples book an engagement session a few months before their wedding. It serves two purposes: you get beautiful photos for your engagement announcement or invitations, and you both get comfortable with my style and pace. You learn how I work, what direction feels natural, and how documentary photography differs from staged portraits. By the time your wedding day arrives, you're not wondering who this person with a camera is—you already know how to work together.

If you're booking a Denver wedding with me, an engagement session is highly recommended for exactly this reason. It's an investment in feeling confident on your wedding day.

"The engagement shoot was a perfect way to get comfortable in front of the camera before the wedding. Casey made it feel effortless."

How to Book an Engagement Session

Engagement sessions are available as an add-on to wedding coverage, or as a standalone portrait experience for couples who want professional photos without the full wedding package. Either way, the session runs the same: 1–2 hours, one or two locations, full photo and video, edited files delivered within a week.

If you're booking a wedding, adding an engagement session is a straightforward conversation — just mention it when you reach out. If you're coming in standalone, tell me where you want to shoot and what you're going for, and we'll figure out the rest together.

I book 3–6 months in advance for preferred seasons. Fall (late September–October) has the most dramatic light and mountain color. Spring and summer book quickly. Winter can be beautiful after fresh snow. Reach out early if you have a specific timeframe in mind. Travel to Denver, the Front Range, and the mountains is quoted per session.

Photo and Video Together

Casey Addason Photography covers both photo and video. If you're engaging a videographer separately and also hiring me for photos, you're coordinating two vendors and two creative visions. A hybrid package combines cinematic video with documentary photography in one coordinated session—typically at a lower combined cost than booking them separately and with far more visual coherence in the final product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you travel to Denver and the Colorado mountains for engagement sessions?

Yes. I'm based in Santa Fe and travel regularly for sessions across Denver, Boulder, the Front Range, and mountain towns like Estes Park and Breckenridge. Travel is handled simply as part of your quote — reach out with your date and location and I'll give you an exact number.

How much does an engagement photographer in Denver cost?

Engagement sessions are available as an add-on to wedding coverage or as a standalone portrait experience. Pricing depends on scope — hours, locations, photo and video vs. photo only. Contact me and I'll give you a straight answer based on what you want.

What is the best time of year for an engagement session in Denver?

Fall (late September–October) has the most dramatic light and aspen color in the mountains. Spring is mild and green. Summer is warm with clear skies, best shot early to beat afternoon storms. Winter can be beautiful after fresh snow. I recommend booking 3–6 months before your preferred season.

Where are the best locations for engagement photos near Denver?

Red Rocks and the Golden foothills offer dramatic sandstone. Chautauqua Park in Boulder puts the Flatirons behind you. Washington Park and City Park work for classic city sessions. Downtown Denver and Union Station bring urban character. Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park and the peaks around Breckenridge offer full mountain immersion. I scout new locations every session to match your style.

How long does an engagement session take?

Standard sessions are 1–2 hours, typically covering one or two locations with outfit changes. Some couples prefer a half-day or full-day to include more locations and transitions. You set the scope.

Do you also photograph weddings?

Yes. Casey Addason Photography covers engagements, weddings, elopements, portraits, and commercial work—all photo and video. Many couples book an engagement session first to see how we work together before their wedding day.

Are you LGBTQ+ friendly?

Yes. I photograph all couples, all ceremonies, all configurations—without qualification.
