Why the Inn of the Five Graces Is Different

There is no other hotel like this in Santa Fe. The Inn of the Five Graces isn't a wedding venue pretending to be a hotel or a hotel awkwardly accommodating weddings. It's a destination property that has been curated by the Seret family over decades — Persian rugs, hand-carved doors, Moroccan tile, textiles collected across three continents — and it happens to host some of the most extraordinary intimate weddings in New Mexico.

I photographed a session here recently and left thinking about it for weeks. Every wall, every courtyard, every suite has its own character. For a couple who cares about visual storytelling — who wants wedding photos that look like their wedding and not like a template — this property does something that no other venue in the region does.

The Property

The Inn sits at 150 East De Vargas Street, two blocks south of the Santa Fe Plaza, in the oldest inhabited neighborhood in the United States. Twenty-four suites and rooms, each one unique. A central courtyard with a carved fountain. Private dining spaces. The Seret & Sons gallery next door. The whole property feels like a private Moorish compound that happens to offer hospitality.

The Inn has been named one of the world's best hotels by Condé Nast Traveler, Travel + Leisure, and nearly every travel publication that matters. Hosting a wedding here is not a budget decision — it's a statement about the kind of experience you want to create for your guests.

What the Inn Hosts

The Inn is best suited to intimate celebrations. The courtyard accommodates ceremonies of 20 to 80 guests. Private dining rooms handle receptions of similar size. The property is genuinely not a large-venue operation — if you're planning 150+ guests, this isn't your venue. But for couples who want something beautiful, private, and memorable for a smaller group, nothing else in Santa Fe compares.

Common uses:

"He knew exactly where to position us for the light in the courtyard. Every photograph feels like it belongs in a magazine. That's the Inn, but it's also Casey knowing what to do with the Inn."
— Couple, Inn of the Five Graces Session ★★★★★

Light and Shooting Strategy at the Inn

The property is dense with visual information. That's a gift and a discipline. Every wall has texture, every door is carved, every room has objects that matter. A photographer who hasn't shot here can easily overdo it — every frame becomes a composition problem. The craft is knowing what to leave out.

Courtyard: The central courtyard gets filtered natural light for most of the day, softened by the surrounding walls. Mid-morning and late afternoon are strongest. The fountain and carved stone are a natural ceremony backdrop.

Suites: Getting-ready coverage works beautifully in the suites because each one is a self-contained visual world — textured walls, ornate headboards, hand-carved cabinetry. Window light is soft and directional. I plan around whichever suite the couple has booked.

Private dining and reception spaces: These are dim by design — candle-lit, intimate. I bring off-camera lighting that respects the atmosphere rather than bleaching it out. The mood is the whole point.

Exterior and neighborhood: Two blocks to the Plaza means that couple portraits can happen in the Inn, on the quiet De Vargas Street outside, or at Plaza landmarks within a short walk. I've photographed in all three contexts and know the timing for each.

Why Hire a Photographer Who's Shot Here

At a property this visually dense, the wrong photographer produces either chaos (too many elements in every frame) or blandness (retreating to safe compositions that ignore what makes the Inn unique). Neither outcome is what you're paying a luxury venue for.

I've shot here. I have a gallery. I know which suites have which light, which corners of the courtyard work for ceremony portraits, which private dining rooms hold which mood at which hour. That experience compresses three hours of scouting into zero hours on your wedding day.

"Casey made everyone comfortable without directing the day. Our rehearsal dinner at the Inn felt like a private dinner among friends. Every photograph we got back feels exactly like that."
— Wedding Party, Santa Fe ★★★★★

Photo and Video — One Vendor

Casey Addason Photography covers both photo and video. At a property as intimate as the Inn, having one vendor rather than two matters more than usual — fewer people moving through tight spaces, fewer personalities in an environment that rewards restraint. Hybrid packages combine documentary photography with cinematic film, typically at a lower combined cost than booking separately.

My Approach

Documentary. I watch what's actually happening. I don't stage moments or herd people into positions. I'm a musician as well as a photographer, which means I understand timing and knowing when to stay quiet. Clients describe me as invisible when I need to be, and fast when something real happens. The result is a gallery that looks like your wedding — not a template of one.

Pricing and Booking

Wedding photography packages start at $3,500 for full-day coverage. Rehearsal dinner and elopement packages start at $1,000. Corporate retreat and private event coverage is quoted by the event. Contact me with your date and what you have in mind.

I'm booking 2026 and 2027. The Inn is a small property — it books out 12 to 18 months in advance for weddings. If you're inside that window, reach out immediately.

LGBTQ+ Friendly

Yes. I photograph all couples, all ceremonies, all configurations — without qualification. The Inn of the Five Graces is a welcoming venue for all celebrations.
